Organic Sugar Snap Pea Seeds - Pisum sativum
Organic Open-Pollinated Non-GMO Sugar Snap Pea Seed
The one and only… Sugar Snap! Adored since its introduction in 1979 and an All-America Selections winner, this beloved variety set the standard for snap peas with its exceptional sweetness, crisp texture, and edible pods.
Bred as a cross between snow peas and shelling peas, Sugar Snap peas offer the best of both worlds—plump, juicy pods filled with tender peas, all meant to be eaten whole. Their outstanding flavor and versatility have made them a garden favorite for decades.
Tall vines bear over a long harvesting period, producing generous yields. Eat the whole pod fresh or cooked. Great yields in both cool and warmer conditions. You say sugar and we’ll say snap!
Snap peas are a delight fresh, tossed into salads, lightly steamed as a side, or added at the end of fried rice or stir-fries. They’re just as enjoyable eaten right from the vine, offering that perfect garden snack.
Blanch and freeze to keep a bit of early summer in your freezer!
Growing Information:
Direct sow seeds in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked, and again in late summer for a fall crop in milder climates. Sugar Snap peas thrive in full sun and well-drained soil. Provide a trellis or support, as vines can grow 5–6 feet tall. Plant seeds about 1 inch deep and 2 inches apart. Peas prefer cooler temperatures and will perform best in spring and fall conditions. Regular harvesting encourages continued production.
Harvesting Information:
Harvest when pods are full, bright green, and crisp, before they begin to toughen. Pods should feel plump but still tender. Pick frequently to keep plants producing. For the sweetest flavor, harvest in the morning and enjoy fresh or store in the refrigerator for short-term use.
