Organic Green Zebra Tomato Seeds - Lycopersicon lycopersicum
Organic Non-GMO Open-Pollinated Green Zebra Tomato Seeds
This is definitely a WOW tomato! Stunning with green and gold stripes and a vibrant open-pollinated variety introduced in the early 1980s by visionary tomato breeder Tom Wagner. Developed in Washington State,
Green Zebra was bred to celebrate bold flavor and striking color. It is rich, sweet and contains a complex tart flavor. Adored by top chefs, specialty markets and home gardeners alike. And a fun name, too!
Unlike traditional red tomatoes, Green Zebra ripens to a glowing emerald green with golden stripes. Beneath its beautiful skin, the flesh is juicy, complex, and refreshingly bright — balancing gentle sweetness with a lively tang. It’s exceptional sliced fresh into salads, layered on sandwiches, or featured in colorful summer platters.
This indeterminate variety produces medium-sized, round fruits throughout the season. Vigorous vines benefit from staking or trellising and continue yielding from mid-season until frost. Plants perform beautifully in garden beds, raised beds, and protected growing spaces.
Fruits are around 3 oz. Does well in cooler weather.

Use trellis or cage for support. Pinch flowers one month before first frost.
It is key that your new starts be hardened off. This is a process that requires taking them outside during the day, for a period of time, before they are planted. This acclimates your seedlings to the outside world, meaning the elements like the wind and sun. We do it for several weeks to a month as this strengthens their stems and overall plant structure.
- Start for a short period of time initially, then graduate to more time each day
- One week minimum is recommended
- Bring them inside in the early evening and overnight
- Keep an eye on them and constantly water them. Make sure they have not blown over.
Harvesting Tips
Ready to harvest when their color shifts from bright green to a softer chartreuse or yellow-green background with pronounced golden striping. Unlike red varieties, they will not turn fully red when ripe, so color nuance and feel are important indicators.
-
Feel slightly soft when gently squeezed
-
Develop deeper golden striping
-
Sometimes show a subtle amber blush on the blossom end
Harvest fruits when they yield slightly to pressure but are still firm enough to slice cleanly. Picking at peak ripeness ensures the best balance of sweetness and tang.
Harvest frequently to encourage continued flowering and fruit set.
Seed Saving
Allow fruits to become fully ripe and slightly soft before processing. As an open-pollinated variety, Green Zebra can be saved and grown out year after year.
