Gardening Tips

Do not plant in cold, wet soil. Soak seeds in water for 30 minutes and add an inoculant, if needed, before planting.

Mulch at base of plants.  Read our blog post on The Power of Mulching

Plant every 2-3 weeks for successive harvest. Use tipi, corn, or trellis for support.

Harvesting Tips

Fresh Shell Beans : Harvest pods when they are fully formed and plump, but still green and flexible. At this stage, the beans inside will show their signature cranberry-red markings and have a tender, creamy texture—perfect for fresh cooking.

Dry Beans | Seed Saving : Allow pods to mature fully on the plant. Pods will turn tan, dry, and brittle, and the beans inside will harden. Harvest before heavy rains if possible, then finish drying pods in a warm, well-ventilated space. Once completely dry, shell and store beans in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Don't forget to label them!
