Mountain Gold Tomato Seeds - Solanum lycopersicum
Open-Pollinated, Non-GMO Mountain Gold Tomato Seeds
Open-pollinated, non-GMO Mountain Gold Tomato is a stunning orange-fruited variety bred for enhanced disease resistance and strong plant structure, consistently outperforming other southern market tomatoes. Compact, productive plants yield abundant harvests of smooth-skinned, medium to large fruits, often reaching up to 14 ounces each—with a distinctive flattened-globe shape and rich, balanced flavor. Developed by Dr. Randolph G. Gardner at the North Carolina State Mountain Horticultural Crops Research Station and released in 1990, this variety has become a reliable favorite for growers in warm and humid regions.
A market gardener’s favorite for its uniformity, durability, and versatility, Mountain Gold shines in fresh eating, slicing, and market displays with its vibrant color and excellent shelf appeal.
We find Mountain Gold to be a dependable and vigorous performer in the garden. Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before your last frost, providing warmth for strong germination. Transplant outdoors once the danger of frost has passed and soil temperatures have warmed, spacing plants to allow for good airflow and healthy growth. These compact, determinate plants benefit from staking or caging to support their heavy fruit set.
Mountain Gold thrives in full sun and rich, well-draining soil, with consistent watering to promote even fruit development and prevent cracking. Its improved disease resistance makes it especially well-suited for southern climates and areas with higher humidity.
Harvest fruits when they develop their full golden-orange color and yield slightly to the touch. Regular harvesting encourages continued production, and fruits hold well both on the vine and after picking. A reliable, high-performing tomato that brings both beauty and productivity to the garden.
