This heirloom is a milder descendant of a landrace of New Mexican chilies originally grown by Pueblo and Hispanic communities. Anaheim thrives in warm, dry areas across the southwest. It’s magnificent for roasting and stuffing, grilling, enchiladas, or tamales. Ranging 500-2500 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), Anaheim is pungent but not particularly hot. Sensitive to fiery foods? Substitute in place of jalapenos in your favorite dishes to reduce spice without sacrificing rich flavor.

7"-long fruits turn from dark green to red at maturity. The immature green fruits are prized for their tender flesh and smoky-sweet taste highlighted by roasting. Mature red Anaheims have more intense heat and depth of flavor.

Growing Tips:

Water base of plant only. Keep soil moist while seeds are germinating and provide consistent watering during flowering and fruit-set for best results.

Start in a dome with a heat mat for best germination. Harden off prior to transplanting. Add compost to soil and mulch at the base. Frost sensitive. Use stake or cage for stability.  Provide consistent watering during flowering and fruit-set.
