Organic Daikon Radish Seeds - Raphanus sativus

Daikon radish is a fast-growing, cool-season vegetable celebrated for its crisp texture and mild, slightly peppery flavor. This versatile Asian root vegetable shines in fresh salads, pickles, stir-fries, soups, and ferments, and is equally valued for its role as a natural cover crop. 

When grown for soil health, daikon’s deep taproot helps break up compacted ground, improve drainage, and pull nutrients up from deeper soil layers, enriching the earth as it decomposes.

The name daikon means “big root” in Japanese, and some varieties live up to the name, growing over 20 inches long and weighing several pounds. Daikon is quick to mature, thrives in cool weather, and can be harvested young for tenderness or left to size up for storage and preserving. We especially love daikon as a cornerstone vegetable in our homemade kimchi—its clean flavor, satisfying crunch, and fermentation-friendly texture are hard to beat.

  Gardener Tips

  Thrives in cool weather and is well-suited for cultivation in both spring and fall. It can tolerate light frosts but may bolt in hot weather. Plant in August for a fall/winter crop!
